How to Apply 

• To apply, please visit the application portal linked here. If you are a non-Harvard applicant, you must create a DCEKey. Before you apply, please make sure you read through all of the sections below.
• Priority Deadline: Submit an application online before 11:59pm (ET) on Monday, February 9.
• Final Application Deadline: Monday, February 23, 2026
• Materials: 4 short essay responses; unofficial transcript(s); resume; online reference form. 
• Interviews: Applicants who are invited to interview will be contacted by email. Interviews are conducted via Zoom on a rolling basis.

Mentors must adhere to the Mentor Guidelines and the CSA Honor Code and ensure scholars follow the Scholar Honor Code. 

In addition, CSA mentors are responsible for providing content matter tutoring and support, promoting student safety and well-being, building an inclusive community, providing general student support, and supporting CSA staff with program delivery. Specific duties within these areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:

Content matter support 

• Ensure scholars arrive to class on time
• Serve as TAs for assigned subjects (e.g., math, writing, science)
• Provide tutoring in the form of homework help, study tips, and more
• Staff assigned study lounge hours 

Promote student safety and well-being 

• Assist with locating tardy Scholars
• Accompany students to Harvard University Health Services, if necessary
• Write up incident reports 
• Support RAs as necessary with implementing guidelines and policies 
• Work closely with CSA staff to ensure prompt, efficient, and clear communication about the mentor community and the Scholar community 
• Career Exploration Fieldwork-assigned mentors:
  • Ensure that all Scholars are accounted for during CEF site visits
  • Lead and support with travel to and from site visits 
  • Be visible to scholars at all times
  • Serve as a CSA representative en route to destination and during site visits 

Build a supportive community for scholars to learn and thrive

• Model, guide, and facilitate positive behavior and attitudes in and out of class
• Model appropriate use of technology in and out of class
• Ensure that scholars are building community within and among groups
• Serve as a resource to Scholars as they transition to dorm life and the rigorous CSA academic environment 
• Encourage Scholars to connect with each other during social times, including meal times. 

General program delivery and support

• Assume other responsibilities as assigned by CSA staff and CSA faculty
• Attend weekly CSA mentors staff meetings and provide weekly reports on mentees
• Support RAs with dorm responsibilities
• Staff study lounges and provide academic and social support as necessary
• Lead the organizing and staffing of community events and model positive and inclusive behavior and attitudes 
• Support with procedures related to move-in and move-out 
• Support procedures related to weekly check-ins and check-outs 

Part-time position, 25-30 hours/week.

Mentors are advised to not have outside commitments that exceed 10 hours/week.

• $2,000 stipend
• Free room, meal plan (3 meals a day, Monday – Sunday)
• 4-credit, 7-week Harvard Summer School course. HSS course selection must fit within the assigned CSA mentor schedule. Mentors may not enroll in more than one Harvard Summer School course. Enrolling in an eight-credit course is not permitted.

• All mentors will be expected to move in on Saturday, June 20 and move out no later than Saturday, August 8.

All CSA Mentors must participate in a pre-summer orientation meeting held in early May (exact date TBA), complete online trainings, and attend mandatory in-person mentor training sessions the first week of the program, June 22-26, 2026.

We invite applications from Boston-area undergraduate students interested in and committed to the CSA mission. We are looking for students who understand that our Scholars are high-achieving and still require support and encouragement. Applicants with experience tutoring, mentoring, and supporting youth education programs are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must possess high emotional intelligence and communication skills sufficient to successfully support and address the health and safety needs of the Scholars entrusted to their care. Individuals selected for the CSA mentor position must have authorization to work in the USA. 

Note: As a condition of employment, CSA mentors must complete and be cleared through the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background and conduct checks in order to complete the hiring process. CSA mentors must be good disciplinary standing with their schools.

Before arriving on campus, CSA Mentors must complete pre-work, which includes online training through Canvas, online surveys, and HR training modules on Title IX policy, the safety and protection of minors, mental health, and other topics.
